Do what you love? Or do what you’re good at? Or maybe more?
We often choose our career path based on what we like, believing that if we do what we love, we’ll work tirelessly and eventually succeed.
Others say we should focus on what we’re good at, that even if it’s not our passion, we’ll definitely smash it.
But what if we’re looking in the wrong direction?
What if a meaningful career isn’t just about what we love or what we’re good at?
Maybe the secret lies in looking beyond ourselves, finding a gap in the world that we can fill, a question we can answer, or a small way to make someone’s life a bit easier.
At the end of this issue, you’ll find a link to my recent conversation with Dr. Delshad Vaghari, a Senior Data Scientist whose work beautifully combines interest, competence, and service. He develops AI models that help create new drugs and treatments for patients diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. His work has helped people in the early stages of dementia receive life-changing treatments.
If you’re reflecting on how to find or reshape your own fulfilling career, this conversation can spark new ideas, and if you’re curious about data science, it’s also a great insight into the skills that drive impact in this field.
Remember to keep moving forward!
