Hi Reader
Lately I’ve been meeting people who all share one goal: finding a better job.
The reasons vary—higher salary, more satisfying work, a healthier culture, or greater responsibility—but the starting point is the same. We review their CVs, LinkedIn profiles and cover letters to sharpen them for today’s market, and let me tell you something:
Your CV, cover letter, LinkedIn profile (and GitHub, if you’re in tech) are your greatest assets and most powerful allies.
When aligned, they showcase your expertise and make it easy for a hiring team to see exactly how you’ll move the needle.
Today I’m sharing insights from the recruiter’s side to help you take the next step in your career.
Before you watch my conversation with tech recruitment consultat, David Quearns, let’s run through a few essentials:
What Every Strong CV and LinkedIn Profile Should Include
- Professional summary – your current title and years of experience, one or two personal qualities that match the role, and one or two examples of relevant achievements—quantified wherever possible.
- Professional experience – your role, organisation and dates, plus up to three concise bullet points starting with action verbs and showing measurable results.
- Education – your degree(s) and dates, including any research or projects directly related to the job you want.
- Skills – grouped by category (for a project manager, for example: management, technical, and relevant tools).
In my conversation with David—a recruitment consultant at Harvey Nash in Newcastle who has helped hundreds of professionals land their dream roles—we explore what makes a CV and LinkedIn profile stand out. He shares what catches a recruiter’s eye and the LinkedIn “must-dos” every candidate should know.
Watch the full discussion to hear David’s insider advice and see real examples of CVs that work.
And Reader, remember to keep moving forward, one step at a time. You’ve got this.
See you next week!
